Gitxaaa is a Tsimshian community built at Lach Klan on Dolphin Island. It is one of the oldest continuously-inhabited sites in Canada. Surrounded by small and large islands, the wealth of the local resources have sustained the Gitxaaa for countless generations. Today about 420 people live here. Oona River is a remote community based on forestry and fishing industries. Settled about 100 years ago, it is one of the few small non-First Nations coastal communities which has managed to survive. About 30 people make Oona River their permanent home.
